20th Century Composition | Trinity Grades 5-8

This PDF was written for students who are preparing for the Trinity AmusTCL music theory diploma 20th Century Composition Question, but who did not follow the Trinity syllabus for the earlier music theory grade exams.

This PDF covers the 20th century scale systems and composition styles taught from grade 5 onwards in the Trinity syllabus, and it thus aimed to give a good grounding in non-classical composition:

• Aeolian, Dorian and Mixolydian modes
• Whole tone scale
• Pentatonic major and minor scales
• Blues scale
• Serialism

It is assumed that the reader has already studied up to grade 8 music theory with another exam board such as ABRSM.
